Source: National Pork Producers Council The Senate Finance Committee this week passed a package of tax extenders, including several of importance to agriculture. NPPC joined 32 other agricultural organization in urging the committee to approve extension of several tax breaks that expired at the end of last year, including the Section 179 small business expensing and bonus depreciation provisions. read more

Otter appoints Mark Harris to Idaho Senate

Otter announced Thursday that Harris will replace former Republican Sen. John Tippets, who was recently appointed by the governor to be the director of the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. Harris previously served on Otter's campaign team as a regional co-chair during the 2014 election.

Drivers as young as 18 years old could be allowed to drive 80,000-pound trucks between states if Congress goes along with a proposal backed by the U.S. trucking industry that safety advocates say would be a disaster. The plan, part of highway legislation that's before the Senate, would greatly increase the number of teenagers behind the wheel of big rigs.
