CSX executive named to Police and Fire Pension board

The city-side makeover of the Police and Fire Pension Fund board should be done by the end of the year. City Council President Greg Anderson this week introduced a bill appointing Richard Patsy to the five-member group that has fiduciary responsibility for retirement plans of public safety members.

The report issued this week after a forensic audit of the fund amounts to poking a stick into an already inflamed wound. City Councilman Bill Gulliford, who was instrumental in persuading the City Council to spend $85,000 for the audit, had this to say about the findings: "A vast and staggering sum of money has been recklessly squandered and now lost forever to the community," Gulliford said during a news conference Wednesday.

Oracle sued by N.Y. Pension over political-giving disclosure

New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, seeking greater disclosure of corporate political donations, sued Oracle, demanding that the world's largest database maker reveal its political spending records. DiNapoli, a Democrat backed by labor unions, has been using his position as the sole trustee of New York's $184.5 billion fund to press corporations to make their donations public after the Supreme Court's 2010 ruling in Citizens United allowed companies to make political gifts without limitations.
