Climate change: Planet to warm by 4 degrees by 2100

Sydney Morning Herald: Climate models: New research suggests that temperatures will rise between 1.5 degrees and 5 degrees. Photo: Michael Clayton-Jones Temperatures are on course to rise at least 4 degrees by the end of the century, according to research that finds earlier climate models projecting smaller increases are likely to be wrong. The research, by a team led by the University of NSW, says a 4-degree rise in temperature would be potentially catastrophic for agriculture in warm regions of the world, including...
Planet likely to warm by 4C by 2100 scientists warn

Guardian: Temperature rises resulting from unchecked climate change will be at the severe end of those projected, according to a new scientific study. The scientist leading the research said that unless emissions of greenhouse gases were cut, the planet would heat up by a minimum of 4C by 2100, twice the level the world's governments deem dangerous. The research indicates that fewer clouds form as the planet warms, meaning less sunlight is reflected back into space, driving temperatures up further still....

Warm November set month's heat record for planet
2013-12-18 11:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Australian Broadcasting Corporation: November was a hot month for planet Earth. Government scientists reported Tuesday that last month set a heat record. They say it was the warmest November on record, across Earth, since record-keeping began in 1880. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says average global temperature, for water and land surfaces combined, was 56.6 degrees (13.7 Celsius). That's 1.4 degrees (0.78 degrees Celsius) above the 20th century average. It was the 37th consecutive November with above-average...

Attempting to understand the most important chemical reaction on the planet: Photosynthesis
2013-12-17 21:42:50| Extremetech
While there are hopes of one day channeling photosynthetic outputs directly to our needs, many key details of the process, including the actual efficiency, are still incompletely known. Researchers at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have just received a big grant to map the molecular events that take place inside one the most complex biological machines known to man -- a group of electron-shuffling proteins known as photosystem II.
