Harold Hamm, chief executive of oil driller Continental Resources who is embroiled in a bitter divorce, offered to pay his former wife $974.8 million, but she rejected a hand-written check delivered to her legal team, his lawyer said on Tuesday. Hamm's offer to pay ex-wife Sue Ann Arnall immediately the full cash value of what he owes based on a November divorce ruling by an Oklahoma County judge was rejected, Hamm's lawyer, Michael Burrage, said in an emailed statement.

Turning to another major issueThe sugar cane crop season and the sugar industry are in serious jeopardy; in fact, the situation has regressed. At an emergency meeting of cane-farmers on Sunday, a majority rejected the proposed agreement between ASR/B.S.I. and the B.S.C.F.A., which means that for all intents and purposes, negotiations have broken down completely. Approximately fifteen hundred farmers were in San Roman, and an overwhelming majority voted against the agreement, hammered out after government intervention. The meeting was intense and discussions were fiery, but in the end the sentiment was clear. Mike Rudon was in San Roman and has the story.

Cumberland board rejects hearing on chicken plant incentives

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners again has said no to pursuing a chicken processing plant that would have brought about 1,000 jobs to the area. Multiple media outlets reported commissioners voted 4-3 Monday against a public hearing necessary to consider a $2.5 million incentive package for Sanderson Farms.
