Softbank COO Arora steps down

(Telecompaper) SoftBank announced the departure of its COO and President Nikesh Arora from 01 July. Arora joined Softbank from Google in September 2014 and helped lead the reorgnisation of the group's domestic and international activities and manage its large portfolio of internet investments. He was expected to take over eventually from Softbank founder and CEO Masayoshi Son. Son said in a statement that he had planned to hand the reins to Arora after his 60th birthday but has now decided that he wants to hold the top job for another 5-10 years and "develop a few more crazy ideas". Saying he did not want to keep Arora waiting for the CEO job, they agreed would move to an advisory role, "while he zeroes on his next challenge".

Tokyo/New Delhi, May 11 : Indian-origin Nikesh Arora has been appointed as president and chief operating officer of Japan's SoftBank and may become the next CEO as the telecom major expands its presence in the overseas market, including India. At the company's earnings conference, CEO Masayoshi Son said the former Google executive was a "strong candidate" to lead the company in future.

SoftBank Corp. chief executive Masayoshi Son anointed the head of the company's U.S.-based Internet investment arm as a future successor, a possible indication of further expansion abroad following the 2013 takeover of U.S. mobile operator Sprint Corp. Mr. Son said he would appoint Nikesh Arora, a former Google executive who has been heading SoftBank's investment arm in San Carlos, Calif., as representative director and president of SoftBank. The head of the firm made the comments after SoftBank announced its latest earning results showing robust profits that beat the company's forecasts for the year ended March 31, despite the continuing struggles to turn around Sprint.

(Telecompaper) Japanese mobile operator SoftBank has appointed Nikesh Arora as its vice-chairman and CEO of SoftBank Internet and Media Inc (SIMI), effective October. Arora joins SoftBank from Google, were he most recently served as chief business officer. In his new position, Arora will contribute to defining, implementing and managing SoftBank's global growth strategy. In addition, as CEO of SIMI he will be directly responsible for overseeing SoftBank's internet, telecommunications, media and global investment activities.
