CAE Inc. says its overall revenue grew nearly six per cent to $557 million in the company's fiscal first quarter due to increases in its civil aviation and health technology businesses. Revenue from CAE's defence and security business was stable at $196.9 million but revenue from civil aviation training rose nine per cent to $336.2 million and Healthcare contributed $23.9 million, up 23 per cent.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia has launched a $5 billion rights issue to boost capital in response to regulatory pressure and has posted a full-year cash profit of $9.14 billion, up 5 per cent and the largest-ever profit by an Australian bank. CBA shares are in a trading halt ahead of the raising, which will boost CBA's closely watched common equity tier 1 capital ratio to 10.4 per cent, lifting it back to the top of the big bank pack.

TransAlta Corp. says it will undertake an independent review of its practices following the Alberta Utility Commission's conclusion that the company triggered outages at power plants to raise electricity rates . CEO Dawn Farrell said the actions that led to the case before the commission were stopped almost five years ago.
