Montana officials are considering giving only partial approval to a $500 million silver and copper mine proposed beneath a wilderness area near the Idaho border, injecting uncertainty into a project that's been in the works for more than a decade. Regulators have continuing concerns with the Montanore Mine's potential effect on surrounding waterways, said Tom Livers, director of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.

Two weeks ahead of the Canyon County Co-op 's opening date Tuesday, Jan. 19, the 2,000-square-foot space was already shaping up into a grocery store. Non-perishable goods like baby care products, candy and wine were on the shelves, but a few gaps remained-a fresh-looking birch produce display sat barren in the center of the room and some refrigeration bins were empty in the back.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that installation of safety improvements to reduce fatal crashes will require intermittent lane closures on NE Columbia Blvd westbound at NE 33rd Avenue, from Wednesday, Jan. 6 to Wednesday Feb. 10. One lane westbound will always remain open for traffic during work hours.
