Description of the job Due to organic growth and new projects, a vacancy has arisen for an AnalogPower Design Engineer within the Communication Products Group based in Stevenage. The Communication Products group is responsible for the development of Digital Processors for use in telecommunication Satellites. The processor functionality ranges from high capacity channelisers, supporting intersatellite optical data links, to implementing cryptographic algorithms to protect the spacecraft. Tasks accountabilities Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Technical responsibility for electronic design of analog and power circuitry and power interfaces for processor equipment, starting from requirement gathering, analysing the customer specification through to delivered flight hardware. Generating design concepts and detailed circuit design, component selection, simulation and schematic capture of analog and power circuits. Commissioning of prototype designs at board and unit level, debug, characterisation and design verification. Designing with consideration of PCB power integrity, board size constraints, thermal dissipations, grounding, fault propagation and electrical safety. Working closely with the product responsible engineer and PCB layout engineers. Generation of documentation to support equipment design eg. Worst Case Analysis, Parts Stress Analysis, FMECA. Following design processes and supporting customer reviews, both internal and external to the company. This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Companys success, reputation and sustainable growth. Required skills We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Experience of hardware design cycle, from requirements capture, through schematic design and constraints capture. Design analyses and willingness to provide handson support to hardware assembly, integration, environmental qualification and production testing. Power electronic circuit design, including knowledge of active protection circuits, magnetics, and DCDC converters. Strong communication and problem solving skills, team player including presenting to clients and communicating designs to technical nontechnical audiances. Experience with Cadence PSpice software Matlab experience is desired, but not essential You will be provided with training on mentor graphics DxDesigner CES flow, Expedition and Hyperlynx. Job Description Astroscale is seeking to employ an experienced and motivated Power Systems Engineer at our facility based in Harwell, UK. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankinds continued use of space as an asset. This role will allow the right candidate to shape solutions for our missions. Whilst the candidate will primarily work in the UK, they will interact extensively with a larger team in Astroscales Japan Office and may expect to be required to travel to Tokyo as needed in support of Astroscale projects and operations. Responsibilities Lead development and design activities for Power subsystems on Astroscale spacecraft derive and maintain subsystem requirements define and develop subsystem architecture perform tradeoff analysis of hardware software solutions developing power budgets define FMECA and FDIR processes Coordinate with other teams at subsystem and at system level to define ConOps, ICDs, development and verification plans. Plan, prepare, and conduct subsystems and system level verification tests, including environmental testing. Interact with partners and suppliers for the provision of power system equipment. Support procurement engineers with specification, tradeoff and selection of power system equipment. Participate in review of the deliverables in support of the project milestones. Essential Skills experience Diploma bachelor or masters degree in electrical engineering or relevant engineeringscience discipline. 5 years of commercial experience of designing and testing power subsystems for satellites. Understanding of solar panel specification, manufacturing process, handling and testing. Experience sizing, procuring, testing and integrating satellite batteries and an awareness the storage handling requirements for batteries. Experience in constructing grounding philosophies and grounding diagrams for spacecraft architectures. Experience of designing and testing EGSE for the purposes of powering the satellite during the AIT phase. Good understanding of spacecraft mission lifecycle and milestones e.g. MDR, PDR, CDR, etc. Good understanding of system engineering managing requirements through the full project lifecycle. Desired Skills Experience Demonstrable experience of spacecraft design lifecycle at all stages from initial concept to design, test, and operations. Operational experience of power systems on spacecraft missions. Experience of analysis radiation tolerances and knowledge of radiation hardness assurance for Low Earth Orbit applications. Whilst the working language across all Astroscale divisions is English, proficiency in spoken andor written Japanese would be considered an asset.
