Researchers find link between death of tumor-support cells and cancer metastasis
2016-02-22 13:56:59| Biotech - Topix.net
Researchers have discovered that eliminating cells thought to aid tumor growth did not slow or halt the growth of cancer tumors. In fact, when the cancer-associated fibroblasts , were eliminated after 10 days, the risk of metastasis of the primary tumor to the lungs and bones of mice increased dramatically.
Buildings wrapped in high-efficiency, flexible solar cells? It could happen
2016-02-20 03:02:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ScienceDaily: A patented breakthrough by researchers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology improves the efficiency of organic photovoltaic cells by 50 percent, and could someday provide a huge boost for the viability of solar power as a major source of energy. The researchers recently published their findings in the Journal of Applied Physics. Organic photovoltaic cells convert solar energy into electric power through organic molecules. One of their advantages over "traditional" solar cells made of silicon...

Solar cells help purify water in developing countries
2016-02-15 19:02:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ScienceDaily: Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have developed a water purification plant that provides clean water far beyond the reach of the electrical grid -- thanks to solar cells. With the help of Nobel Peace Prize recipient Muhammad Yunus, these small and portable solar cell stations have now been placed across rural Bangladesh. "750 million people lack access to clean water across the globe. Providing safe drinking water is one of the biggest challenges and one of the most important goals for humanity,"...
