CALGARY - The 17th year of the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train program saw tremendous crowds, generous donations and big smiles as it etched its way across Canada and the northern U.S. With results continuing to roll in, the 2015 edition of the Holiday Train is on track to raise more than $1.4 million and more than 300,000 pounds of food for food banks and food shelves. Since its start in 1999, the CP Holiday Train has now helped to raise more than C$12 million and 3.9 million pounds of food for local food banks.

The willpower of two young Wauwatosa Girl Scouts is strong enough to stop a train, at least for a few minutes. Thanks to the hard work of 12-year-old Girl Scouts Michela Miller and Madison Sveum, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will stop in Wauwatosa on Dec. 4. Last winter, Miller and Sveum, both of Troop 1185 , were huddled together while standing near the train tracks in Wauwatosa.

Food organizations from east to west shared their stories of volunteerism and donations of fresh, locally-farmed foods getting to the most vulnerable people in our communities. Patrons attending Holiday Train events were asked to bring healthy food options while food shelves were asked to commit 10 percent or more of CP's monetary donation to healthy food initiatives or purchases.
