German regulator orders Vodafone to introduce changes to zero-rated Pass after net neutrality investigation

(Telecompaper) In terms of video streaming, Vodafone does not reduce the quality of video streams at times as does Deutsche Telekom with its own zero-rated service StreamOn, although Vodafone said it reserved the right to reduce streams to SD quality within legal limits. Vodafone said it would inform the BNetzA three months ahead of time before it introduces features reducing the quality of video streams, giving the regulator enough time to ban any unlawful restrictions on video quality. The BNetzA said it expects Vodafone will follow the outcome of the current court proceedings over Telekom's StreamOn service.
Australia triples NBN orders for wholesale speed tiers of 50 Mbps or higher

(Telecompaper) Australians are increasingly switching to faster internet retail plans, with 70 percent of new orders on the NBN access network being now based on wholesale speeds tiers of 50 Mbps for download or higher, according to a report from NBN Co, the company building Australia's broadband network. The report further shows that, since December 2017, orders for wholesale speed tiers of 50 Mbps or higher have almost tripled, increasing from 16 percent to 44 percent, with average bandwidth network congestion reduced from more than five hours to less than 30 minutes per service, per week compared to this time last year (excluding Sky Muster satellite).

(Telecompaper) General Motors (GM) has announced a USD 2.25 billion investment from the SoftBank Vision Fund into its self-driving unit GM Cruise. The unit is planning to launch driverless fleet next year. The deal is subject to regulatory approval.Meanwhile, Waymo is planning to buy 62,000 more Fiat Chrysler (FCA) cars for its driverless robotaxi service, with delivery expected late this year.
