Cellnex to buy Arqiva's telecom division for GBP 2 bln

(Telecompaper) Spanish infrastructure operator Cellnex Telecom has announced a deal to acquire the telecommunications division of UK media and communications infrastructure and services group Arqiva for around GBP 2.0 billion, confirming earlier reports. The transaction involves the acquisition of some 7,400 owned sites and the rights to market around 900 additional sites throughout the UK, said Cellnex, adding that it will become the largest independent operator of wireless infrastructure in the UK if the deal is cleared by the antitrust authorities.

Zimbabwean mobile money cash-ins surge 108% to USD 2.4 bln in Q2

(Telecompaper) The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) said mobile money cash-in transactions surged 108 percent to USD 2.4 billion in the second quarter to June 2019 from USD 1.2 billion in the first quarter 2019, as mobile money users grew. Cash-out transactions increased by 63 percent from USD 795.5 million to USD 1.3 billion. The increase is attributable to the general rise in the prices of goods and services coupled with cash challenges, too.
Ericsson takes provision of SEK 12 bln for fallout from US corruption probes

(Telecompaper) Ericsson said corruption investigations into the company by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Department of Justice (DoJ) are ongoing and that the company will be taking a provision of SEK 12 billion (over USD 1.2 billion) in the third quarter to cover potential fines and costs. The company estimates potential monetary sanctions at USD 1 billion, with other related costs coming on board. There is also the question of reputational harm, which could have a "material" adverse impact on the business, the company said.

Digital Realty sells US data centres to Mapletree Investments for USD 1.4 bln

(Telecompaper) Digital Realty announced an agreement to sell 13 data centres to Singapore-based property developer Mapletree Investments and its affiliate Mapletree Industrial Trust for a total of USD 1.4 billion. Mapletree will buy ten existing data centres and an 80 percent stake in a joint venture to operate three additional sites in the US.

Google to pay EUR 1 bln in tax settlement with French authorities

(Telecompaper) Google reached an agreement in France on a long-running dispute with the country's tax authorities, which had led to a raid by financial crime officers on its Paris office in 2016. At the time, the company was reportedly asked to pay EUR 1.6 billion in back taxes, after being accused of tax optimisation practices. A Google spokesperson confirmed that a settlement had been reached, comprising a EUR 500 million fine ordered by a French court, in addition to a EUR 465 million payment for additional taxes.
