South Korea to return KRW 63 bln to Qualcomm following antitrust ruling

(Telecompaper) South Korea's antitrust regulator has canceled part of a penalty of KRW 273 billion (approximately USD 243 million) it previously levied against US mobile chip manufacturer Qualcomm, Yonhap news agency reports. The move by the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) came two months after the Supreme Court ruled that certain periods, during which Qualcomm offered exclusive rebates to LG Electronics in return for the South Korean firm buying its radio frequency chips, should be excluded from the penalty.

Google hit with EUR 1.5 bln fine by EU for AdSense search competition abuse

(Telecompaper) Google has received its third multi-billion-euro fine from the European Union for anti-competitive practices. The company was fined EUR 1.49 billion for abusing its dominance in the search intermediary market with its AdSense for Search product for advertising on third-party websites offering search engines. The Commission said restrictive clauses in the AdSense contracts prevented Google's rivals from placing their search adverts on these websites.
Nvidia buys Mellanox for USD 6.9 bln

(Telecompaper) Nvidia has agreed to buy Mellanox for USD 125 per share in cash, translating into a total value of USD 6.9 billion. The companies together will power over 250 of the world's top 500 supercomputers, and serve just about every major cloud service provider and computer maker. Upon completion, the deal is expected to immediately add to Nvidia adjusted earnings, gross margin and free cash flow. The company added that it will also keep its capital return programme for the rest of fiscal 2020.
SoftBank unveils USD 5 bln Latin American startup fund

(Telecompaper) At the same time, SoftBank is setting up a new operating group called the SoftBank Latin America Local Hub, which will partner with companies that are already in SoftBank's investment portfolio to help them enter the region. The group's Chief Operating Officer and former Sprint and Brightstar CEO Marcelo Claure has been named CEO of SoftBank Latin America and will be tasked with overseeing the new fund, its investments and operations. No decision has yet been made as to the location of the new fund's HQ, said SoftBank.
Cellnex announces EUR 1.2 bln capital hike to fund acquisitions

(Telecompaper) Spanish infrastructure operator Cellnex Telecom has announced a EUR 1.198 billion capital increase to strengthen the group's resources and fund its further expansion. The capital increase involves the issue of 66.9 million new shares, equivalent to 28.91 percent of its current total, at EUR 17.89 per share. Cellnex said its main shareholders ConnecT (29.9% of the capital) and CriteriaCaixa (6%) have already agreed to subscribe to the issue.
