Millicom acquires Telefonica's Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua units for USD 1.65 bln

(Telecompaper) Millicom has announced an agreement to acquire Telefonica's mobile telecommunications assets in Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua for a total of USD 1.65 billion in cash. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval in each market, and is expected to close in the second half of 2019.

LG Uplus to acquire 54% stake in CJ Hello for KRW 800 bln

(Telecompaper) Following the completion of CJ Hello's acquisition, LG Uplus is expected to become South Korea's second-largest pay-TV operator, with an estimated market share of 24.4 percent Yonhap news agency reports. The cable content will add to LG's existing IPTV services.

Jumia seeks USD 1.5 bln value in US IPO, could help MTN cut debt - report

(Telecompaper) African online retailer Jumia is planning an initial public offering in New York this year that could value the business at about USD 1.5 billion, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Jumia's largest shareholder MTN Group is planning to raise as much as USD 600 million by selling its shares through the IPO, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified as the information is not public. MTN and Jumia declined to comment.

Dtac agrees to pay THB 9.5 bln to settle CAT disputes

(Telecompaper) Thai mobile operator Dtac announced an agreement to settle part of its long-running legal disputes with CAT Telecom. If approved by Dtac shareholders later this year at the AGM, Dtac would pay CAT THB 9.51 billion (USD 298 million) to CAT under the agreement.

Ericsson to take SEK 7.6 bln in charges to restructure loss-making BSS business

(Telecompaper) Ericsson announced plans for SEK 6.1 billion in one-time charges in Q4 to restructure its BSS business. The company said its new Revenue Manager product had proven unsuccessful and had to be written off. It plans to restructure the business in order to focus on updating its existing platform, Ericsson Digital BSS.
