Canal Plus loses Ligue 1 TV rights to Mediapro as auction raises EUR 1.15 bln

(Telecompaper) The French football league LFP said it has awarded five of the seven packages of Ligue 1 broadcast rights for the 2020-2024 period, for a record EUR 1.15 billion per season. Spanish broadcasting group Mediapro, majority-owned by Chinese private equity fund Orient Hontai, won three of the seven lots on offer, including the one featuring the championship's top ten matches. Current rights owner beIN Sports secured one smaller lot, while Iliad entered the football broadcasting stage for the first time buying the rights to near-live highlights. Canal Plus, which splits Ligue 1 rights with beIN Sports for the 2016-2020 seasons, bid for each of the seven lots but failed to secure any of the packages.

Trump says ZTE to pay USD 1.3 bln fine, change management to restart business

(Telecompaper) US President Donald Trump said the US government will allow ZTE to restart its business, after it pays another large fine and changes its management. In a tweet on 26 May, Trump said: "I closed it down then let it reopen with high level security guarantees, change of management and board, must purchase US parts and pay a USD 1.3 billion fine."

Adobe buys commerce platform Magento for USD 1.68 bln

(Telecompaper) Adobe has agreed to buy commerce platform Magento for USD 1.68 billion, so that it can integrate commerce into its Adobe Experience Cloud, delivering a single platform for both B2B and B2C customers. Adobe said consumers and businesses now expect every interaction to be "shoppable," whether it be on the web, mobile, social, in-product or in-store. The Magento Platform will bring together digital commerce, order management and predictive intelligence into one unified commerce platform so that Adobe can enable shopping experiences across a wide array of industries, such as consumer packaged goods, retail, wholesale, manufacturing and the public sector. Adobe will be acquiring Magento from Permira Funds, with a stake also coming from Hillhouse Capital.

Apple pays first EUR 1.5 bln towards disputed state aid in Ireland

(Telecompaper) Apple has made the first payment towards the EUR 13 billion in unfair state aid it was ordered to pay back to Ireland. The Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe said that the first tranche of EUR 1.5 billion was deposited in an escrow fund and the remaining amount should be paid into the fund in Q2 and Q3.
Singtel's FY profit jumps 41% to SGD 5.4 bln

(Telecompaper) Singapore operator Singtel ended the financial year with a net profit of SGD 5.45 billion, which represents an increase of 41.5 percent year-on-year. Revenue growth was mainly boosted by gains from the divestment of NetLink Trust and a strong performance by its core business, Singtel said. Operating revenue for the full year was up 5 percent to SGD 17.53 billion while EBITDA rose 2 percent, reflecting higher mobile and fixed broadband customer numbers in Australia and contributions from the Group's digital businesses.
