BCE will put CAD 1 bln into Manitoba after MTS deal closes

(Telecompaper) Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) shareholders have approved BCE's plans to acquire MTS. The transaction still needs to clear a few more regulatory hurdles but is expected to close on schedule, either in late 2016 or early 2017. BCE (Bell) welcomed the decision said, saying the companies' combined operations in Manitoba will be known as Bell MTS, and Winnipeg will become Bell's Western Canada headquarters. When the deal closes, Bell said it will invest CAD 1 billion over five years into expanding broadband wireless and fibre communications services in Manitoba.
Tata to pay USD 1 bln in damages to Docomo in JV dispute

(Telecompaper) Japanese operator NTT Docomo has announced it received from the London Court of International Arbitration a binding arbitration award under the arbitration proceeding regarding its stake in Indian operator Tata Teleservices (TTSL). The award orders that Tata Sons pay damages to Docomo in the amount of USD 1.172 billion for Tata Sons' breach of the shareholders agreement, upon Docomo's tender of its entire stake in TTSL to Tata Sons or its designee.
Dell in talks to sell software ops for USD 2 bln - report

(Telecompaper) Dell is in advanced talks to sell its software division for over USD 2 billion to Francisco Partners and Elliott Management, Reuters reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. Divesting the software assets will help Dell refocus its technology portfolio and bolster its balance sheet after it agreed in October to buy data storage company EMC for USD 67 billion. EMC also owns a controlling stake in VMware.

Egypt prices 4G licence at EGP 3.54 bln

(Telecompaper) Orange Egypt said that Egypt's telecommunications regulator has set the price of a licence to provide 4G mobile services at EGP 3.54 billion, half of which must be paid in dollars. It said in a statement on the Egyptian stock exchange that the regulator had set the cost of acquiring a fixed line licence at EGP 100 million and the cost of a licence to offer customers international calls at EGP 1.8 billion, Reuters reported. A spokesman for the regulator has confirmed that it approached the three companies that currently offer mobile services in Egypt about applying to buy 4G licences but did not give details or prices. Telecom Egypt (TE) also said it had received a letter from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) concerning its right to obtain a licence to provide 4G services.
