DEQ issues grants for asbestos cleanup in Oklahoma buildings

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality is providing grants to three rural communities to clean up asbestos in historic buildings. The Hotel Franklin in Mangum, the Old Pawnee Municipal Hospital in Pawnee and the Oaks Rehabilitation Facility in McAlester were selected as recipients of this year's grant money.

Railway open as train wreck cleanup continues

Cleanup efforts are still under way near Dublin to clear the carnage of train engines, cars and cargo from the site of Tuesday's derailment of two Norfolk Southern trains as officials continue to investigate the accident. The Federal Railroad Administration is assisting with the investigation, and representatives from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality are onsite to assess the impact of more than 20,000 gallons of lube oil that spilled as a result of the crash.

Crew Members Released from Hospital After Train Derailment, Cleanup Continues

Additional equipment detrailed - more than additionally reported when a Westbound Norfolk Souther train was struck from behind by a second train, also headed westbound, at 4 p.m. yesterday. According to Norfolk Southern, all of the oil is contained to the site, and has not impacted any waterways containing moving water.
