Department of Energy (DoE) congratulated Jonathan Pershing for his appointment as Special Envoy for Climate Change at the Department of State. Over his 3 years at DoE, Pershing served as Deputy Director of the Energy Policy and System Analysis office. Pershing, who was also part of core team designing Mission Innovation, was credited as being "instrumental" in analyzing USA's energy systems. He also led DoE efforts to support U.S. negotiating team prior to and at COP21 climate negotiations.

DOE announced Denver as host city for next U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon competition in fall of 2017. During biennial event, student teams compete to design, build, and operate cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive solar-powered houses. Teams from across the country and around the world will be competing for $2 million in prize money. In the Solar Decathlon 2017, 16 teams will compete in 10 contests, ranging from architecture and engineering to home appliance performance.

U.S. Department of Energy announced funding for American Indian and Alaska Native communities to deploy clean energy and energy efficiency projects. DOE plans to invest over $9 million in 16 facility- and community-scale energy projects in 24 tribal communities. As part of Obama Administration’s commitment to partner with Tribal Nations, these projects provide Indian Tribes and Alaska Native villages with clean energy solutions that will save money and reduce carbon pollution.
