Package description Full details on application Main responsibilities Overview Within the ESA Sensors Performance, Products and Algorithms SPPA Section the postholder will be included in the Swarm Data Innovation and Science Cluster DISC contractual framework. The postholder will be supporting the data quality assessment of the Swarm different instruments, taken from a subset of Electric Field Instrument EFI, composed by a Thermal Ion Imager TII and two Langmuir Probes LP and the magnetic field instruments, composed by an Absolute Scalar Magnetometer ASM and a Vector Field Magnetometer VFM. The required expertise shall be related to geomagnetic field and or space plasma physics magnetospheric and ionospheric physics, solar wind the related instruments Scalar and Vector Magnetometers, Langmuir probes, thermal ion imagers, electrostatic analysers the algorithms and theory underneath the processing of data. Expertise on related scientific research and also on the utilisation of ground based equipment for magnetic field measurements or plasma both Incoherent and Coherent Scatter Radars, Ionosondes and Digisondes, AllSky Cameras would also be valuable. Responsibilities The main activities will mainly consist in a Performing product quality monitoring activities and provide Mission sensors scientific technical support Operations of the Quality Control QC tools for systematic and onrequest product quality analysis and reporting Define improvements of the QC tools as needed Support in the QC tools software verification and validation Coordination for related data anomaly investigations and resolution WeeklyCyclic Reports compilation Support to data reprocessing campaigns dataset definition, analysis of reprocessed data Development of adhoc data analysis routines if needed. b Handling the technical communication on data quality towards the science users issuing of web notesnews about the mission, writing and updating dedicated web pages detailing the characteristics and quality of the Swarm products. c Support to Instrument Processing Facilities IPF operations, including Software maintenance and evolutions verification plan definition, execution and reporting Anomaly investigation Support to IPF integration into reference and operational platforms Software configuration tuning. d If needed, support interfacing with external entities and other ESA interfaces PDGS, PLSO, FOS other entities inside DISC general end users requests via ESA Earth Observation Help Desk. e Prepare scientific documentation posters for workshops or conferences as agreed within the DISC and with ESA. f Support the preparation of periodic service reports on the activities performed. Ideal candidate Science oriented education and background aerospacecommunicationsplasma engineer, physics, astronomy.... In particular, a robust expertise in at least one of the following topics is required space plasma physics SunEarth interactions, solar wind, magnetospheric and ionospheric physics, plasma detectors electrostatic analyzers, Ion Imagers, Langmuir probes, geomagnetic field. Mandatory skills Programming skills IDL or MatLab preferentially, other programming languages and scripting Linux for data manipulation analysis automation purposes. Additional assets Expertise in testing software, data flows and interfaces. Experience of an ESA mission exploitation phases. Low Earth Orbiting space missions concept precise orbit determination and assessment, GPS signal processing, accelerometers data processing and analysis. Experience on the products, algorithms and applications related to Swarm onboard instruments. Good knowledge of ESA Standards. Founded in mid2017, we have secured longterm funding and successfully demonstrated several novel prototypes related to laser transmission and efficient perpendicular solar concentration. Our mission is to make 10x more data download possible to meet the demand from the growing satellites market, especially smallsats, delivering more data from the earth orbit to the ground at higher speed. Role responsibilities We are looking for an innovative, reliable and experienced 25 years Aerospace Product Assurance Quality Assurance PAQA Manager to ensure high output quality aiming to the longterm success of our business and augment our rapidly growing team. Generally speaking your presence should help us delivering great, reliable products services that may even set new industry standards! The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a PA process within our startup, improving industrial processes, product qualitycompliance, and maintaining efficiency. Your duties will include inspecting procedures and outputs, and identifying mistakes or nonconformity issues, and organizing the verification of product. You should have solid experience in quality control together with great attention to details, and be able to make professional conclusions about the quality of products and services. REQUIREMENTS Required skillsexperience Knowledge of ECSS standards in PAQA, testing and verification. Product assurance experience in the space industry, ideally for cubesatsnanosatellites. Demonstrated ability to diagnose, report, track and resolve quality related issues. Substantial work experience of a scientific, engineering or technical nature involving data analysis and statistical methods. Proficient with MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel. Educated to degree level or equivalent in STEM subject or equivalent. Strong numerical skills, with great attention to detail and a results. Proficient English, positive attitude, selfdriven and interested in working in a startup environment Independent, quick learner, can structure and show initiatives to thoroughly evaluate and solve problems from different angles, proactively push progress forward Desirable additional skillsexperience Practical experience working in PAQA within the space industry, ideally on Cubesats. Experience of product assurance on space projects working to ECSS requirements. Chartered status awarded by an engineering, quality assurance or scientific organisation. Knowledge of inspection requirements and techniques for electronic and optical assemblies. Knowledge of ESA forbidden materialscomponents. Knowledge of laser safety and cleanliness for space systems. Experience working on Cubesat projects, UAV, HAPS projects.
