Monaco Telecom claims first in Europe with LTE Cat 9

(Telecompaper) Monaco Telecom announced the first deployment of LTE-Advanced Category 9 in Europe. The operator is working with Huawei to deploy the technology on its network. Monaco Telecom first launched LTE-A services at the start of this year and currently offers a top speed of 223 Mbps. With the latest upgrade, it will be able to offer speeds up to 450 Mbps. Monaco Telecom is using a total 60MHz for LTE, including 2x20MHz in the 2.6GHz band and 1x20MHz in the 800MHz band. The operator said the continuous upgrade of the network is needed as data traffic is doubling each year, with customers now averaging 1.3 GB per month each. Around half its data traffic already runs over LTE. Customers are expected to be able to take advantage of the faster speeds from next year when Cat 9 terminals become available on the market.

Supplied in 4.5 x 6.5 mm plastic SMT packages, Models CGHV27060MP and CGHV35060MP are 50 V/60 W broadband GaN HEMTs fabricated on SiC substrate with 0.4 µm process. Model CGHV27060MP, supporting frequencies from UHF through 2.7 GHz, provides 16.5 dB gain, 70% drain efficiency, and 80 W output power at pulsed PSAT with 100 µs pulse width and 10% duty cycle. Model CGHV35060MP operates from 2.7–3.5 GHz. Tested at 3.3 GHz, device exhibits 14.5 dB gain with 67% drain efficiency.

Orange spends most in Polish LTE auction

(Telecompaper) Polish regulator UKE has published the official results of the LTE auction for frequencies in the bands 800 MHz and 2600 MHz. The subject of the auction were five blocks (A1 - A5) of 10 MHz in the more valuable band 800 MHz and fourteen blocks (B1 - B14) of 10 MHz in the 2600 MHz band. UKE announced the auction on 10 October 2014, and the auction lasted until 15 October 2015. The licences will be awarded for fifteen years. The winning bidders, in order of total amount spent, were Orange Poland (PLN 3.2 billion), Cyfrowy Polsat/Polkomtel (PLN 2.2 billion), T-Mobile Poland (PLN 2.1 billion) and P4 (PLN 1.7 billion).
