MuLTEfire Extends Unlicensed LTE

Qualcomm has come up with a new improved version of LTE-U - the version of LTE used for unlicensed spectrum. Qualcomm's new technology for LTE in unlicensed spectrum, called MuLTEfire, does not require an anchor in licensed spectrum, so opening up LTE to organisations that don't own licensed spectrum like ISPs and stadia or conference venue owners.

LTE subscriber base to reach 1.4 billion at end-2015

ABI Research estimates that there will be nearly 1.37 billion 4G LTE subscribers worldwide by year-end 2015, up from nearly 650 million in 2014. ABI Research forecasts that the LTE subscriber base will exceed 3.5 billion by 2020.

LTE subscriptions reach 635 mln worldwide at end March - GSA

(Telecompaper) GSA, the Global mobile Suppliers Association, confirmed that LTE subscriptions continue to grow faster than any other mobile communications system technology. Analysing Q1 subscriptions data provided by Ovum, GSA noted that in 3 successive quarters LTE subscription net additions have outpaced any other mobile communications technology. There were 635 million LTE subscriptions worldwide on 31 March. LTE subscriptions increased by 123.7 million in Q1, which is over 58 percent higher than for 3G/WCDMA-HSPA gaining 77.9 million. GSM subscriptions fell 100 million in the quarter. A total number of 393 operators have commercially launched LTE systems in 138 countries, according to GSA data announced in April.

Warid Pakistan introduces LTE broadband 'wingle' and MiFi

(Telecompaper) Pakistani operator Warid Telecom has announced the launch of its LTE Broadband Wingle. This device offers high-speed 4G internet at up to 150 Mbps on the go, with coverage in all major cities nationwide. Warid's Wingle can support up to ten users simultaneously. It can be controlled by smartphone and functions such as plugging it into a car charger, laptop USB port or even directly to a power outlet using an adaptor. Warid is also offering MiFi, a portable and rechargeable device that can transmit Wi-Fi signals on the go.
