Strong year for Mass. home sales, up 14 percent over 2014

A strong year for sales of single-family homes in Massachusetts has ended with a strong final month, according to two organizations that track the market. The Massachusetts Association of Realtors and The Warren Group both announced Wednesday that the number of single-family homes sold in December was the most in any December since 2004.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles on Wednesday reported better-than-expected rise in fourth-quarter operating profit as strong results from North America and improving operations in Europe offset weakness in Latin America and Asia. The world's seventh-largest carmaker said adjusted operating profit for the October-December period rose to 1.64 billion euros from 1.18 billion the previous year and compared with an analyst consensus forecast of 1.3 billion euros.

Jan 27 Canadian information technology and outsourcing services provider CGI Group Inc reported a better-than-expected quarterly profit, helped by higher sales in the United States and the UK. The Montreal-based company, which is also holding its annual general meeting on Wednesday, said its backlog of signed orders rose to C$21.51 billion at the end of December from C$20.18 billion a year earlier.
AK Steel losses mount as foreign competitors hurt sales

AK Steel grew sales in 2015 to approximately $6.7 billion thanks partly to the acquisition of a new steel plant in Michigan the year before as well as a strong automotive market, the company reported Tuesday. However, it wasn't enough to fend off an 11 percent decline year-over-year in average steel selling prices, as the steelmaker contended last year with an oversupplied global market.
