U.N. nuclear agency sends new Fukushima expert mission
2013-10-04 11:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Reuters: The U.N. nuclear agency said on Friday it would send an international team of experts to Japan later this month to look into efforts to clean up affected areas around the crippled Fukushima atomic power plant. Japan's nuclear regulator earlier ordered the operator of Fukushima to draft in additional workers if needed to plug leaks of radioactive water from its tanks and report within a week on steps taken to fight the crisis. The warning was the second in as many months issued to Tokyo Electric...

U.S. Government Shutdown Threat Sends Oil Prices Near Three-Month Low
2013-10-04 06:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Another Fukushima Leak Likely Sends More Contaminated Water into Ocean
2013-10-03 23:33:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Nature World: Another leak of radioactive water at the crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear campus was reported Thursday, and some of the water may have have reached the plant's harbor on the Pacific Ocean. Levels of strontium 90 were found to be 6,667 times the legal limit, which is 30 becquerels per liter. Tokyo Electric Power Co., the plant's operator, said...

Effect of climate change sends ocean health 'spiralling downward' faster than predicted
2013-10-03 12:48:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Independent: Scientists have warned that climate change has sent the health of oceans "spiralling downward" faster than previously thought. A key international assessment of climate change last week revealed the oceans are absorbing much of the warming and unprecedented levels of carbon dioxide caused by human activity such as burning fossil fuels. Now experts are warning the impact of rising greenhouse gases combined with a range of other problems is far graver than previously thought. Oceans are being...
