Samsung unveils Gear S3 smartwatches at IFA

(Telecompaper) Samsung has presented its new Gear S3 smartwatch ahead of the Ifa consumer electronics show in Berlin. The watch will be available in two formats, the more industrial-design S3 Frontier and the S3 Classic, which resembles a traditional wristwatch. The Gear S3 watches will be available from the fourth quarter in Europe for a recommended retail price of EUR 399.

Samsung delays Galaxy Note 7 deliveries for quality checks

(Telecompaper) Samsung announced that deliveries of its latest flagship, the Galaxy Note 7 will be delayed while it conducts additional quality controls. The news is a major setback for the company after seeing very high demand for the phone during the pre-order period started earlier this month. Samsung disclosed the news to Reuters but did not provide more details on the quality tests or to what markets shipments are being delayed. The phone launched in Samsung's home market South Korea and other countries earlier this month, and reports in Korea have claimed that the battery on some phones exploded.

Samsung Pay transaction volume tops KRW 2 tln in Korea

(Telecompaper) Samsung Pay has exceeded KRW 2 trillion (approximately USD 1.78 billion) in transaction volume in South Korea in the first year since the company launched the mobile payment service on 20 August 2015, Yonhap news agency reports, citing a company statement. Samsung said more than 11 million cards registered to access the service in Korea. Samsung also reports the service reached a total of 100 million transactions across the seven countries where it is available, namely the US, China, Australia, Spain, Singapore, Brazil and South Korea.
