Researchers Find Fungus a Possible Precursor of Severe Respiratory Diseases in Pigs
2016-07-21 02:00:00| ThePigSite - Industry News
AUSTRIA - Respiratory diseases in pigs typically involve multiple infections from different pathogens. Some pathogens play a greater role than others in the progression of the disease. The fungus Pneumocystis carinii is a relatively common cause of pneumonia in Austrian pigs, but its role has so far remained largely unexplored. Pneumocystis is considered to be less dangerous than other pathogens, as it probably requires other underlying conditions to sufficiently weaken the immune defence of the animals first.

Drought stalls tree growth and shuts down Amazon carbon sink, researchers find
2016-07-06 22:32:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ScienceDaily: A recent drought completely shut down the Amazon Basin's carbon sink, by killing trees and slowing their growth, a ground-breaking study led by researchers at the Universities of Exeter and Leeds has found. This new study, the most extensive land-based study of the effect of drought on Amazonian...
