Inspire Pharma - with deep Triangle roots - settles civil fraud claim

Inspire Pharmaceuticals , a company with a 20-year history in the Triangle, has agreed to pay $6 million to settle a federal civil fraud claim that it marketed an eye treatment for uses that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had not approved, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. The office said in a press release that Inspire "misleadingly focused on purported anti-inflammatory properties of AzaSite that were unsupported by substantial evidence or substantial clinical experience in order to cause doctors to prescribe AzaSite for for uses not covered by federal healthcare programs."

U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposed $75,000 civil penalty against Murray Aircraft Manufacturing, LLC of Ypsilanti, MI for alleged operation of one aircraft that was not in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations. From December 12, 2012 to February 18, 2014, said company allegedly operated British Aerospace Jetstream 3101 on at least 300 flights when 11 required maintenance checks had not been performed.

Federal Aviation Administration proposes civil penalties against 3 companies for allegedly violating Hazardous Materials Regulations. In each case, FAA alleges shipments were not accompanied by shipping papers to indicate hazardous nature of their contents and were not marked, labeled, or packaged in accordance with the Hazardous Materials Regulations. Proposed penalties against DGI Menard Inc., Aqua-Chem, Inc., and Rust-Oleum Corp range from $54,000 to $81,669.
