Metop Spacecraft Operations Engineer

We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a Metop Spacecraft Operations Engineer You will be based initially for 2 years at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Extension of a further 2 years may be possible. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities. Your Tasks Include The Key person shall work in the Operations and User Services Department as a member of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. The key person shall be assigned and trained to provide operations expertise and support to one or more platform subsystems and or payload instruments, depending on his or her experience and the overall team needs. The key person shall also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, the key person shall support system and operations preparation activities for MetopC, for Metop Second Generation satellites and possibly also for Sentinel3 and Jason CS. The key person shall be required to support operations during normal working hours, as well as support the oncall operations engineer rota, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Spacecraft Operations Team on a 247 basis. The tasks of the Key person will typically include Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B and preparing for MetopC, comprising Provision of operational expertise to one or more platform subsystems andor payload instruments Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Operations Support Entity in ESTEC and Industry Participation in the satellite oncall support rota Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites. Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Provide operations preparation support as required to the Sentinel3 and Jason CS developments. Your Profile In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have a demonstrated experience in one or more of the following Spacecraft monitor and control operations Spacecraft operations preparation engineering Low Earth Orbit spacecraft design or Assembly Integration and Test activities at system or subsystem level. Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with some of the following Inorbit operations of Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation satellites Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities. Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures. Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB. File parsing languages such as PERL, AWK. Use of VBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications. The candidate should be selfmotivated and able to work in an organised and efficient manner with minimum supervision. Strong data analysis, processing and synthesis skills are essential and an ability to recognise opportunities for improvements in areas of work and implement appropriate solutions is highly desirable. The official languages are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have a knowledge of the other. Good communication skills would be also an advantage. Overview The contractor will provide support to the MetOp Programme. The principle tasks and responsibilities will include General administrative support to the MetOp Second Generation MetOpSG Programme Coordination with and backup for the Administrative Assistant to the MetOpC and Sentinel5 Projects Processing of all incoming and outgoing documentation and correspondence, including use of Documentation Management Systems e.g. Eclipse for registration and distribution Support users for retrieval of documents from local DMS, DMSs from external partners andor industry, out of paper archives, other sources like ESTEC library, scanned documents on CDROM or via internet, etc. Maintenance of a consolidated action item list for the Programme and ensuring that actions are being discharged in coherence with the established procedures Support to the configuration management processes within the Programme Focal point for all documentation administrative tools e.g. DMS, RID system, action item database, etc. used in the Programme Close coordination with EUMETSAT administration team to ensure efficient and timely exchange of information Support to the preparation and conduct of internal and external audits on the Programme Preparation of minutes of internal management meetings, integrating various inputs Compilation of reports from inputs from various contributors for review and finalisation by the Programme Manager Organisation of the calendars for the MetOpSG team and the MetOp Programmes Manager Coordination and organisation of internal and external meetings and reviews, including room and resource booking Preparation of documentation and briefings for meetings, as appropriate Management of incoming telephone calls and information requests Preparation, coordination and organisation of the travel requirements and mission claims for the Programme team, ensuring optimum use of resources Administration of the leave records for the Programme team in the ESA SAP system Responsibility for the management and procurement of promotional items for the Programme, including for launch campaigns Timely ordering of office supplies. Specific qualification requirements University degree Bachelor from a recognised Institution of secondary studies or equivalent qualification in Business Administration or Communications as relevant, with relevant experience. Highly proficient in MS Office packages e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. with experience of high level Project Administration tools for data documentation management and general administration e.g. SAP Excellent planning and organisation skills and attention to detail Good communication skills Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule Initiative and motivation to perform to high standards in a demanding environment Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the outside world Knowledge of ESA administrative and financial processes is a definite advantage Experience with SAP is an advantage Fluent in the English language spoken and written.
