Tasks and Responsibilities The successful candidate will join the Control and Data Centres team, whose activities cover the development of ground control systems, controlling the experiments done on board of the International Space Station, and different future space crafts, as well as the development of space weather related systems. The relevant activity for this position is the development of mission control systems for future unmanned and manned spacecrafts. In this activity, the software will be developed in the team according to detailed requirements, while following space related standards. Together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for the development of the system following the full software development cycle, including the production of high level documentation and while adhering the relevant standards. Qualifications and Experience For this position, you must have a university degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent. The following capabilities are mandatory for the position 2 to 5 years of experience in design and development of software implemented in Java. Experience with the software development lifecycle. Competent in writing highquality software project documentation in English. Good knowledge of Linux systems as a user and administrator. Good understanding of IP networks, firewalls, VPN, PKI, routing. Open Source Server environment OpenLDAP, FTP, Samba. The following capabilities will be considered as an advantage for the position Experience with Python and Django. Knowledge of CCSDS protocols Packets, CFDP, MO, SLE. The requirements specification, design, implementation, integration and verification of Mission Planning Systems for new EUMETSAT LEO Programmes PhaseBCD, including the setting up of the related maintenance arrangements and processes. The technical coordination in the team of the different parallel activities involving the EUMETSAT Mission Planning Systems for LEO missions. The tasks of the key person will typically include Maintenance and Evolution Activities o Reengineering activities analysis of the porting of some subsystems to stateoftheart technologies, tradeoff studies of various technologies, software design of the technical solutions, following the procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of the changes. o Evolutions and changes generation andor analysis of userdriven and maintenance driven software requirements, software design of the technical solutions, following the procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of the changes. o Preventive and corrective maintenance including the investigation and correction or following the corrections implemented by external contractors of anomalies in the software facilities and verification testing of the fixes. o Maintenance test procedures generation and updates of maintenance test procedures at software facility level and at system level. o Support and development of the verification infrastructure development andor procurement of scripts tools to perform installation checks, nonregression, functional and performance testing. Analysis and implementation of mechanisms or tools allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the application software. o Coordination of the production of new software releases or patches, delivery acceptance and installation onsite. This activity includes the technical coordination of the production by an external contractor of new releases or patches of the application software, liaison with the EUMETSAT operational users, participation in technical reviews, participation in factory at contractor premises acceptance testing campaigns and coordination of the installation of the releases or patches onsite at EUMETSAT. o Execution and coordination of software verification and nonregression testing campaigns. This activity includes preparation of test data, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports, analysis of results and troubleshooting of problems. o Software support software support to the endusers of the application software. o Ensure operations continuity by provision of oncall services and software support to operations. o Documentation generation and updates of technical documents. o Technical point of contact for maintenance contractors acting as point of contact with the contractor for technical discussions, review of technical documentation from the contractor, organizing periodical technical meetings with the contractor. Support to new Missions PhaseB activities Requirements engineering o Participation in the functional analysis and decomposition of the Ground Segment requirements in the domain of Mission Planning System. o Support the definition of Ground Segment requirements in the area of the Mission Planning System. Participation in workshops and review meetings. o Interfacing with Operations to consolidate the operational concept in the Mission Planning System requirements. o Support the identification of the verification method and initial test cases for the Mission Planning System requirements. o Incorporate the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning System kernel products in the Ground Segment requirements. o Interfacing with the Mission Planning System kernel product experts in the MCA Team to coordinate their contributions to the requirements definition. System Architectural design o Support the generation of the architectural system level design of the Mission Planning System as part of the Ground Segment. o Support the production of design models using Systems Engineering and CASE tools. o Support the definition and documentation of all interfaces IRDsICDs between the elements of the Mission Planning System and other Ground Segment or external elements. o Incorporate the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning System kernel products in the Ground Segment design. Support to new Missions PhaseCD activities Support to Mission Planning System implementation o Support to the requirement and design engineering activities as part of the applications development. o Participation and contribution in requirements, design and implementation reviews both internal and with external contractors. o Follow the software development by external contractors of the Mission Planning System. Support to IVV and Acceptance o Participation in verification readiness reviews and verification testing campaigns both internal and with external contractors. Technical coordination of the parallel activities involving the EUMETSAT Mission Planning Systems for LEO missions o Support to the technical coordination of all the activities in the team where the EUMETSAT LEO Mission Planning Systems are involved. These activities comprise at the moment the maintenance and evolution for missions under routine operations, reengineering activities and the reuse of the EUMETSAT Mission Planning System in new Programmes. Qualifications University degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Skills The key person shall demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of specification, design, implementation, verification and maintenance of Mission Planning Systems. The key person shall have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas 1. Domain Skills Experience minimum 5 years in the definition of software requirements, architectural design, implementation and maintenance of Mission Planning Systems in the context of Low Earth Orbit LEO space missions. 2. Software Development, Verification Maintenance Skills Experience minimum 5 years in the full cycle of development and maintenance of application software, preferably for Mission Planning Systems, following formal software engineering processes. This includes user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design, implementation, corrective and evolutive maintenance activities. Experience minimum 3 years in IVV integration, verification and validation activities, preferably for Mission Planning Systems, following formal engineering processes. This includes requirement verification, system and subsystem integration, generation of test plan and test procedures, nonregression testing, generation of test data, generation of test tools, running the test procedures on the target system, generation of test reports and anomaly tracking. 3. Software Engineering Skills Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using C and Java programming languages for UNIXLinux operating systems. Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using interfaces to relational database management systems RDBMS and experience with data model design for RDBMS. Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using JBoss Drools as business rule management system. It would be a distinct advantage for the key person to have knowledge andor experience with some of the following 4. Domain Skills Experience in integration of Mission Planning Systems with Mission Control Systems based on MICONYS software suite from ESAESOC. Experience in integration of Mission Planning Systems with Flight Dynamics Systems. Experience in support to flight control operations teams for Mission Planning Systems. 5. System Maintenance Skills Experience in being the technical point of contact for contractors working at offsite premises and responsible for application software evolution and maintenance. 6. Software Technology Skills Experience in the usage of software CASE design tools e.g. Enterprise Architect andor MagicDraw. Experience in using Unified Modelling Language UML for software design. Experience in developing software applications interfacing with Oracle RDBMS. Experience with Oracle RDBMS administration. Experience with ILOG Views visualization library. XML processing schema design, validation, parser libraries, transformation XSLT and XPath. Experience in designing, developing and maintaining software client applications using Eclipse as HMI framework Rich Client Platform. Experience in designing and developing component based software applications using formal techniques e.g. OSGi. Experience using tools for the automation of software testing. The key person shall also be assessed for the following skills and qualities Working proactively with the minimum of supervision in an individual or team environment. Monitor and, where applicable, steer the lifecycle for all related anomaly reports ARs nonconformance reports NCRs. Develop, including design, documentation, coding and testing of dedicated Mission Operations Facility tools not externally procured based on input requirement documentation. This task includes the involvement interaction with the final users, participation to relevant reviews and answering of RIDs generated. Operation of the MTG satellite simulator during Mission Operations Facility test campaigns. Provision of support to other users of the MTG satellite simulator Mission Operations Facility tools. Preparation and production of routine reports as necessary. Preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings. Analysis, review and generation of any relevant MTG documentation.
