For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Mission Control Applications Engineer. Tasks and Responsibilities You will be working in the TSS Department as a member of the Mission Control Applications and Tools MCAT competence area CA, which is part of the GSI Division. The MCAT CA is responsible for the maintenance and development of the following MCAT functions Spacecraft Monitoring Control System Local Monitoring Control System Onboard software management application Flight Dynamics System Mission Planning System Procedure and Schedule Execution OpsPrep Tools Data analysis and reporting tools Spacecraft Simulator. The MCAT CA performs the following activities Software engineering and software maintenance of multimission and missionspecific MCAT for EUMETSAT flying missions Software engineering for Mission Control Applications and Tools reuse adopting when possible separation between generic kernel and missionspecific extensions Integration and verification at application and system level User and software support to flight control teams Support to the EUMETSAT Programme Preparation and Development PRD Department for the PhaseBCD of new missions in the domain of Mission Control Applications. You will provide prime support to the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team and will contribute to the requirements specification, design and development of Mission Control Applications for new Programmes PhaseBCD, including the setting up of the related maintenance arrangements and processes. Your tasks will typically include Support to New Mission PhaseCD activities Support to Applications development Follow the software requirement definition, design and development, of Mission Control Applications produced by internal and external contractors Participation and contribution in software requirements, design and implementation reviews related to Mission Control Applications produced by internal and external contractors Interfacing with the Mission Operations Team to consolidate the operational concept in the area of the Mission Control Applications Support to the Ground Segment engineering activities i.e. requirements, external interfaces and design consolidation, in the area of the Mission Control Applications Support and document the evolution of all interfaces ICDs between the elements of the Mission Control Applications and other Ground Segment or external elements Support the production of design models using CASE tools Participation in verification readiness reviews and verification testing campaigns both internal and with external contractors related to the Mission Control Applications. Support to GSI MCA Activities Reference Architecture Participation to the definition and maintenance of the EUMETSAT TSS reference architecture for the Mission Control Applications part of the Ground Segment. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, you should demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of specification, design, implementation, verification and maintenance of Mission Control Applications. You should also have skills and experience in the following mandatory areas Domain Skills Experience in the definition of Ground Segment system level requirements and production of system architectural design artefacts in the domain of the Mission Control Applications Experience minimum 5 years in the definition of software requirements and architectural design and implementation of Spacecraft Monitoring Control applications Experience minimum 5 years in the customization of Spacecraft Monitoring Control applications based on MICONYS software suite from ESA ESOC. In particular experience in the telemetry and commanding chains and in the archive component is considered mandatory Knowledge and understanding with actual working experience of space related standards ECSS and CCSDS concerning spacetoground interfaces and applicable to Satellite Mission Control Systems such as ECSS Packet Utilization Standard PUS, CCSDS Space Packet Protocol SPP and CCSDS Space Link Extension Protocol SLE. Software Development Lifecycle Skills Experience minimum 3 years in the full cycle of development and maintenance of Mission Control Applications following formal software engineering processes. This includes user and system requirement analysis, software requirement engineering, software design, implementation, corrective, perfective and adaptive maintenance activities. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language. Desirables It would be a distinct advantage for you to have knowledge and or experience with some of the following Domain Skills Experience with Mission Control Applications and or operations specifically for LEO spacecraft Knowledge of the Mission Control System interfaces with the Mission Planning Systems function and the Flight Dynamics Systems Experience with test tools for Spacecraft Monitoring Control System, e.g. Satellite Simulators. System Application Development and Management Experience in being the technical point of contact for contractors working at offsite premises and responsible for application software evolution and maintenance Experience in IVV integration, verification and validation definition e.g. test plan, test procedures for Mission Control Applications. Technology Skills IBM DOORS requirement management Tool Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect Tool Linux Operating System Experience in developing software applications using interfaces to relational database management systems RDBMS and experience with data model design for RDBMS Unified Modelling Language UML for software design Experience using tools for the automation of software testing. You should also be assessed for the following skills and qualities Working proactively with the minimum of supervision in an individual or team environment Conducting activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, working calmly and correctly under stress Working in teams and sharing expertise and experience with other team members Able to commit to the plan and deliver the expected results on time or to report proactively if any deviations are foreseen Take ownership of problems through to effective resolution Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills and be confident to deal with a wide variety of people. NTSB to launch second search mission to EL FARO.

NTSB will launch a second expedition to search for evidence in its investigation of the loss of the cargo ship EL FARO, which sank in the Atlantic during a hurricane on Oct 1, 2015. Key objective of upcoming mission, which is expected to begin in April, is to locate the voyage data recorder and to provide investigators with a more extensive and detailed survey of the shipwreck. If VDR is located, another mission using a remotely operated vehicle capable of recovering recorder will be initiated.

Research FellowSatellite Mission Operation Centre Manager Department of Electrical Electronic Engineering Guildford 30,738 to 37,768 Fixed Term 2 year Full Time Ref 005416 The Surrey Space Centre SSC, part of the Department of Electronic Engineering, is a worldclass institution for space research. The successful candidate will join one of the largest space systems groups in Europe and who will be responsible in managing the SSC Ground Station. The SSC groundstation is a distributed, Linuxbased system that uses Python scripts to connect a central computer controller to several software and hardware peripherals. The candidate should continue the work done by previous developers to support research, produce a robust and automated system that is able to activate and control these peripherals on an ondemand basis according to an automated schedule but able to be interrupted or modified by a human operator. This is a 24 month contract. The candidate should have experience or be familiar with Python and PyQT GUI programming Socket programming, RPC RF basics such as antennas, power amplifiers and filtering including link budget analysis, RF system measurements noise, power, VSWR etc. Hardware interfacing especially legacy serial port handling and knowledge of using APIs in software development. Linux programming, especially Bash scripting and automation SQL databases, data management. Communications theory and softwaredefined radio design especially GnuRadio and internet security experience is an advantage.
