This is an an ideal position for an experienced Software Engineer with minimum 3 years experience in the operation and maintenance of SCOS2000 satellite control systems. The position is fully based on customer side in EUMETSAT, unlimited and fulltime. Submission deadline for applicants for this position will be 29.02.2016. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES The tasks of the key person will typically include Support to routine operations, including o Definition and maintenance of missioncontrol operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides o Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities o Liaison with the operations analysts to ensure continuity and optimisation of database related activities o Interface with other facilities within the operational ground segments to ensure the continuity and optimisation of ground segment and mission monitoring and control activities o Interface with external elements of the operational Ground Segments to ensure the o continuity and optimisation of data exchanges with the mission control systems o Interface with the mission control systems maintenance team and industry representatives to ensure optimised performance, including participating in the definition and implementation of any changes o Provision of support to operational ground segment analyses o Provision of standbyoncall support as part of a team of MCS engineers o Provision of support, as required, to critical operations o Processing of system anomalies, their documentation, investigation, classification and resolutionmitigation, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards o Participation in further technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings. Support to modifications to the operational systems, including o Interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade. o Processing of system modifications, including their documentation, approval, and implementation, including participation in Change Review Boards o Support to, and participation in, the functional verification and operational validation of mission control systems and related elements, both standalone and in the context of an overall ground segment. Support to the preparations for recurrent satellites and future satellite programs Support to operations teams, providing training, through written materials, practical demonstrations and presentations, to other members of the Operations Team. QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE Software engineer with minimum 3 years experience in the operation maintenance of SCOS2000 satellite control systems. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Fluency in English At least three years work experience in the operation of spacecraft control systems At least three years work experience developing andor maintaining spacecraft mission control systems software At least five years work experience developing andor maintaining software for a UNIX operating system At least two years work experience with the SCOS spacecraft control system At least two years work experience defining and implementing the verification and validation of spacecraft mission control systems software. Job description We are looking for a System Test and Validation Engineer to support our customer, ESAESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, with endtoend test and validation of ground segment software infrastructure applications used for satellite mission operations. The ESOC software applications include MICONYS, SIMULUS, TEVALIS, DABYS, EUD, and Ground Station Back End Data Systems. Good knowledge of one or more of these applications is required. Responsibilities Typical activities to be undertaken are Setup and maintenance of the Integration and Test reference environment and relevant configuration Installation and integration of infrastructure application releases Creation and maintenance of virtual machines containing a collection of infrastructure applications Creation and maintenance of test databases, containing the static and dynamic data required to perform the systems validation activities Installation, configuration, test, validation, verification, debugging of ESOC infrastructure applications MICONYS, SIMULUS, TEVALIS, DABYS, EUD, Ground Station Back End Data Systems Participation in Progress Meeting and Reviews Review of technical documentation and verification of compliance to the applicable requirements Production and maintenance of technical documentation, including test plans and test reports Collaboration with the ESOC Technical Officers for the acceptance tests activities of the main systems deliveries and patches Definition and execution of manual and automated test cases Measurement of systems performance Production of test reports documenting the outputs of the systems acceptance test activities. Software verification and validation activities listed above will be executed whenever necessary onsite at ESOC, using the technical installations available in the ESOC infrastructure integration and test facilities. Some activities may be performed at Terma premises. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in Q1 2016. Location Terma premises and customer ESOC premises, both in Darmstadt. NASA Advances Mission to Protect Earth From Asteroids

NASA last week announced that it has established the Planetary Defense Coordination Office to formalize its efforts to detect and track near-Earth objects. The PDCO will supervise all NASA-funded projects to find and characterize asteroids and comets that pass near Earth's orbit around the sun. It will issue notices of close passes and warnings of any detected potential impacts.

Reporting to the Mission Control Systems Manager, the successful candidate will have responsibilities across all of EUMETSATs operational and future programmes. Whilst the primary aspect of the role is mostdefinitely system engineering of satellite control systems, the successful candidate will also undertake delegated supervision of a team of consultant engineers. Candidates shall have operational experience of the systems used on spacecraft, both platform and payload elements this may have been gained from a commercial, governmental or research background. Experience of a spacecraft control software package, such as SCOS2000 would be considered an advantage. The key candidate shall have the ability to plan and implement activities, prioritising according to constraints and to do so effectively in the English language. Candidates shall also have good interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly communicate ideas and issues. All applicants must have proven professional experience in operations preparation and routine operations of a satellite or ground segment along with experience in the development, maintenance andor operations of satellite mission control systems. They shall also have handson experience supporting the development and formal testing of an operational satellite ground segment. The work of the SEEOMA Competence Centre is oriented to supporting the design of space missions from a mission engineering point of view mostly for ESA, EC and system integrators, as well as designing and developing system and mission analysis tools to assess mission scenarios and architectures, operations concepts, system performances, and to perform research in celestial mechanics and its applications. As a matter of reference, DEIMOS activities encompass Earth observation, science and lunar missions Formation flying and satellite constellation systems Satellite rendezvous and active debris removal ADR Space transportation systems and reentry vehicles Flight dynamics Space system engineering Planetary entry, descent and landing System and mission analysis tools and simulators for the design, analysis and operations of space missions Main Duties The following types of responsibilities are envisioned Modelling and simulation of space missions and systems, including space environment and space vehicle dynamics. Mission design and analysis of multisatellite systems constellations, formation flying, convoys in support to the system design process.
