It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for a Senior Structures Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. The successful candidate will be responsible to Lead team to develop structural product from concept to final design and qualification, within agreed timescales and budget. Lead major project with assistance. Limited signoff. You will have a complete knowledge of structural design methods and processes to lead a design team. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include To provide an engineering definition of spacecraft structure component design that is cost efficient and complies with all requirements with minimum iterations. This definition will be given to Designers to produce engineering drawings. Carry out basic structure sizing calculations, produce mass calculations and exercise mass control. Carry out manufacturing dimensional tolerance studies. To write structures design documentation for customer reviews and provide all subsidiary information which demonstrates that all requirements are met. To present and justify the design and its development at customer reviews. Designs will be taken from concept into production, therefore, design for manufacture, cost and minimum schedule are essential elements. To work in a concurrent engineering team, reporting to the Project Team Leader or Project Manager as appropriate, working with Stress, Thermal, Propulsion and Manufacturing Engineers and having a good appreciation of their work. Design using an adequate knowledge of structure behaviour and load paths. To plan all design activities to ensure that structure specification, statement of work, schedule and cost are met and that long lead items are ordered as required. Conduct trade off studies. Define drawing family tree and PDM BOM. Limited signoff of engineering drawings and engineering change documentation ensuring that structure design requirements are met. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Aeronautical or similar related discipline Business module within degree desirable. Working knowledge of Spacecraft Structures Design techniques and methods. Good understanding of the static and dynamic behaviour of structures. Appreciation of the relevant design drivers and associated manufacturing issues in their specialist field. Extensive experience analysis of techniques and methods for light weight structures strength and stiffness prediction that are generally common to spacecraft structures analysis Experience in classical hand analysis and computer techniques including the use of the industry standard finite element programme with prepost processing software, To be able to perform sizing calculations, establish design concepts, perform tradeoffs and prepare development plan. Developed ability to perform main activities, needing some supervision. Appreciation of launch vehicles and the launch environment. An appreciation of project management.
