International Paper Co., Memphis, Tenn., is offering a lump-sum payment window to certain participants in one of its U.S. defined benefit plans, its recent 10-K filing states. The company announced the window, which expires on April 29, for terminated vested participants of the Retirement Plan of International Paper Co., who have yet to retire.

In Optical Society's (OSA) research journal, Optica, researchers at University of Ottawa report that twisted light pulses in vacuum travel up to 0.1% slower than speed of light. Research team leader Ebrahim Karimi noted that this fact is of importance to anyone intent on using twisted light for quantum communication. According to Karimi and fellow paper author Frederic Bouchard, twisted light holds great potential for encoding in quantum communication and quantum computers.

SES - Society for Standards Professionals and U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee are co-sponsoring annual paper competition for individuals in U.S. standards community. Authors may choose to address 2016 World Standards Day theme of "Standards Build Trust" or another domestic (U.S.) or international topic of their choosing. Top Prize is $2,500, and submissions are due by midnight August 19, 2016.
