As part of its ongoing efforts to spread awareness among postsecondary students of strategic significance of standards and conformance, ANSI, in conjunction with its Committee on Education (CoE), announced fifth annual student paper competition. Applicants are being sought to submit entries, due by 5:00 pm ET on April 29, that exemplify 2016 theme: A World without Standards. This competition is open to full- and part-time college or university students of all disciplines.

International Paper , North America's second largest uncoated freesheet paper producer, announced a $60 price increase for its Williamsburg offset roll, return postcard rolls, and end leaf papers, the company said in a Mar. 2 letter to merchant customers. The increase is effective Apr. 1. Both IP and Domtar, the two largest North American UFS producers, now plan increases for Apr. 1 in what is the first increase in UFS pricing in the USA in more than two years.

Big banks test blockchain to trade commercial paper

Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Macquarie Bank, National Australia Bank and Westpac Banking Corp are part of a group of 40 global banks that have used different distributed ledger technology to simulate trading of commercial paper. On Thursday, R3 CEV, a group running a series of banking trials of block chain, said the Australian banks were part of a global group that had executed "smart contracts" on five block chains.
