Software Development Engineer for Herschel Key Tasks and Responsibilities In this role you will be part of the Herschel team at ESAESAC. You will have the following responsibilities Development and maintenance of the Herschel standard product generation and quality control framework Graphical user interface GUI development and maintenance Development and maintenance of the Herschel Interactive Analysis system Development and maintenance of data structures Development and maintenance of numerical libraries Setting up and providing access to webservices working in the VO context Writing and maintenance of documentation Provision and maintenance of test harnesses Support of the data processing technical assistants when running the operational environment to generate Herschel standard products. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in computer science, electronic engineering, or equivalent Several years experience in professional software development and software engineering coding Java applications Excellent knowledge of Java, GUI development,Unix based systems Linux Configuration control system CVS Knowledge and experience with the following would be an advantage Numerical and astronomical data reduction systems and algorithms Socket oriented multiclientserver applications and parallel multiprocessing environment Jython Virtual Observatory concepts and software HTTP and HTTPS protocols Writing of user documentation Bash scripting and FITS file format Fluency in English is mandatory, knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
