E.U. Clothing Imports: Latest and Long-Term Trends (Monthly Report)

EU clothing imports have fallen in March, probably due to the change in holiday dates, however clearly recovering over the first quarter this year, thanks to a rebound of the euro from the same period a year earlier. China has continued losing market shares whereas Bangladesh was taking advantage of significantly lower unit prices this year, at least in euro terms. Our report covers monthly EU clothing import data, with historical trends being analyzed, and a specific focus on China vs Rest of World (RoW) and Bangladesh, and on knit vs woven clothing. Data are supplied in euro and in US dollars with historical data available for download, back to January 2000.

Telecom Egypt approves acquisition of MENA Cable from Orascom TMT, long-term credit facilities

(Telecompaper) Telecom Egypt said that its board has approved two strategic decisions to increase its return on investment, and provide the liquidity to facilitate the implementation of its business plan. The board approved the acquisition of Middle East and North Africa Submarine Cable (MENA Cable) by 50 percent-owned subsidiary Egyptian International Submarine Cables Company, with a total enterprise value of USD 90 million to be financed through a shareholder loan from Telecom Egypt. MENA Cable is a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom Media and Technology Holding.

US apparel imports have sharply dropped in March after surging in February, due to the change in holiday dates in Asia. Shipments have actually remained very stable over the first quarter. China has apparently regained ground, even compared with a slowing down Vietnam, and whatever the lower reduction of Chinese unit prices. Our monthly review covers US apparel import data, with historical trends being analyzed over the 2000-2018 period including cotton vs man-made fiber apparel, and China vs Rest of World (RoW) and vs Vietnam.
