ADVANTGES OF USING A ROOTED ANDROID PHONE FOR WIRELESS FIELD MEASUREMENTS

There are some clear advantages why wireless carriers, engineers and wireless consulting companies soon will look to Xpedite as the device of choice for wireless RF field measurements and analysis of cellular 3G and 4G networks. So besides the availability of the tool on Google play, what makes Xpedite unique from other tools? THE DEATH OF TEST PHONE FLASHING | THE BIRTH OF TEST PHONE ROOTING Probably one of the most important milestones achieved by X-TELs development team over the past several months has been the ability to develop, configure and deliver a platform that no longer requires dependency to any single test equipment vendor to deliver a field measurement test handset such as Xpedite. For 15 or more years wireless carriers, wireless engineers and wireless engineering consulting companies have been dependent on drive test vendors to FLASH their test phones with special software in order to perform wireless drive test measurements and indoor signal strength air interface data collection. Xpedite unchains this dependency by using ROOT ACCESS to empower the user with administrative privileges enabling them to keep their phone up to date with current releases of software used by their customer base. Years ago FLASHING test phones was a minor inconvenience for users, since before the smartphone, a phones operating system (OS) was relatively simple requiring few changes. In the Smartphone world this is not the case, and for both competitive and operational reasons the OS is indeed updated more frequently than ever before. If a user needs to pack, ship, and send their phone back and forth to the vendor for the update, then wait for its return valuable time is wasted. In some cases, because of this delay and inconvenience, updates are simply ignored altogether and radio field measurements and optimization work continues, but with an outdated OS, sometimes providing erroneous results from what a typical subscriber would experience under similar circumstances. Xpedite never has a problem with updating because the phone is ROOTED. When new updates are made, they are automatically downloaded to the phone from the Google play store, as Google intended it to be, easy, fast and convenient for the user. Now wireless carriers, wireless engineers, and wireless engineering consulting firms dont have to wait to get their old Android phones updated so they can test what millions of subscribers are already using. They can perform their wireless drive testing and indoor coverage measurements with the same Android test phones and software version their subscribers are using. There is also another overlooked and rarely considered issue. The fact remains that other Android test phones from other drive test vendors are actually "mashed" into test phones with a MODIFIED KERNEL. (Whats a kernel? Please do a Google Search.) While this can provide some benefits, in most respects its potentially as bad as putting Microsoft Windows on top of a Unix kernel, and pretending you are testing Microsoft Windows OS, when in fact you are actually testing Microsoft Windows OS on top of a Unix kernel. Thats different, and that is not exactly the best approach for testing and analyzing the complex wireless networks of the future. Last, but not least, the FLASH process is indeed an antiquated method of delivery for wireless test mobile software in essence, its a relic of the past. Sending a phone to a test equipment vendor for a flash update is like sending email via pony express. Its pretty stupid considering the advances made with wireless data delivery of smartphone apps. Most important, its unnecessary, so why continue doing it? Get Xpedite today on Google play. Thats what we made it for to make your job easier.
