ZTE H1 growth led by China, network equipment

2015-08-26 14:13:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) ZTE reported first-half results largely in line with its preliminary report. Revenues rose 21.8 percent to CNY 45.9 billion, and net profit was up 43.2 percent to CNY 1.62 billion. Revenues in its home market China rose 26.5 percent to CNY 24.36 billion, and international revenues were up 16.8 percent to CNY 21.54 billion. Africa showed the strongest growth, with revenues up 54.2 percent to CNY 3.21 billion, and sales to the rest of Asia outside China rose 27.7 percent to CNY 7.20 billion. The final interim report shows that its network equipment business was largely responsible for the growth, with revenues up 30.6 percent year-on-year to CNY 28.51 billion. ZTE said it profited from the issue of FDD LTE licences in China and the government's new programme to expand broadband access in China. Revenues from mobile phones and other end-user devices were down 4.3 percent to CNY 9.96 billion amid a fall in prices in China. ZTE said it focused on the CHina and US markets and expanding its brand awareness and marketing.

IDC cuts smartphone growth forecast on China slowdown

2015-08-25 15:52:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) IDC has cut its forecast for global smartphones sales this year, due to the slowdown in China. It now expects annual growth of 10.4 percent to shipments of 1.44 billion smartphones, down from its previous forecast of 11.3 percent growth in 2015. China is the world's largest smartphone market, good for almost a third of phones sold last year. However, growth in China is expected to slow to just 1.2 percent this year, from 19.7 percent in 2014, as the market matures in line with the pattern seen in many Western countries. China is expected to still remain the largest market for smartphone volumes throughout IDC's forecast period, but its share will fall to an estimated 23.1 percent in 2019 as other markets like India continue to expand.
