(Telecompaper) China Telecom reported first-half revenues up 4.7 percent year-on-year to CNY 193 billion. Service revenue was up 7.0 percent to CNY 177.6 billion and would have risen 8.5 percent without the impact of new accounting rules, the company said.

(Telecompaper) Bharti Airtel and Telecom Egypt have announced a strategic partnership under which Airtel will get IRUs (Indefeasible Right of Use) on the Middle East North Africa Submarine Cable (MENA Cable) and TE North Cable Systems. In addition, Airtel will take large capacities on a long-term basis on two new cable systems, SMW5 & AAE1. The transactions should be concluded after the fulfillment of all conditions precedent.

Telecom Italia revenues down 2.7% in H1, starts evaluating asset sales

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) reported a 2.7 percent year-on-year decline in first-half revenues to EUR 9.51 billion on a comparable basis, hit by the devaluation of the Brazilian real at its TIM Brasil unit, a recent jobs deal, the return to monthly billing in Italy and other regulatory impacts. The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) was EUR 3.92 billion in the first six months, down 4.8 percent compared to the year-earlier result of EUR 4.11 billion, while the margin was down 0.9 of a percentage point to 41.2 percent. TIM added that organic EBITDA net of non-recurring components and other one-offs totalled EUR 4.04 billion, some EUR 2 million higher than a year earlier, while capital expenditure fell EUR 381 million to EUR 1.68 billion on a comparable basis.

The UK's telecoms regulator Ofcom has this week revealed that figures for online streaming services have outstripped demand for terrestrial pay-TV services for the first time. 15.4 million people in the UK signed up for online streaming services during the second quarter of 2018, compared to 15.1 million traditional pay-TV subscriptions, according to Ofcom's report.
