Elliott raises Telecom Italia stake to 9.9% - report

(Telecompaper) Activist fund Elliott has increased its stake in Telecom Italia (TIM) to 9.9 percent following its call to replace six Vivendi-nominated board members, including chairman Arnaud de Puyfontaine, with its own candidates, reports La Repubblica. TIM has officially announced that it will supplement the agenda of the upcoming Annual Shareholders' Meeting to be held on 24 April with Elliott's motion but the report indicates that Vivendi and funds association Assogestioni are also expected to submit a slate with their board candidates. Shareholders could even request that the board be enlarged from the current 15 members.

Veon withdraws offer for Global Telecom

(Telecompaper) Veon announced that it has withdrawn its offer to buy out its Egypt-based subsidiary Global Telecom. The company said it notified the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority that, given the lapse of time and absence of approval, Veon is withdrawing the mandatory tender offer filed in November 2017 and does not intend to proceed with another bid at this time.

China Telecom revenues grow nearly 4%, profit up 3.3% in 2017

(Telecompaper) China Telecom reported operating revenues of CNY 366.2 billion for the twelve months of 2017, which represents an increase of 3.9 percent from 2016. Service revenues amounted to CNY 331 billion, up by 6.9 percent year-on-year. EBITDA reached CNY 102.1 billion, up by 7.4 percent year-on-year, and the EBITDA margin rose 0.2 points to 30.9 percent. Profit increased 3.3 percent to CNY 18.6 billion, while basic earnings per share were CNY 0.23 in 2017.
