The NOC is responsible for providing 1st and 2nd line support to the ESA space missions and its users. It provides Ground Operations, Operational IT and Operational Control Centre services and acts as single point of contact for realtime service requests from ESTRACK customers. The planning team is responsible for the schedule of all operational activities including ground station usage and other activities affecting operations at ESOC. Main responsibilities The main tasks of the Planning Officer will be Supervise the Scheduling office, responsible for o Routine planning and automation o Replanning o Load capacity analysis o Compile support requirements o Manage support requests to third parties o Realtime scheduling changes Maintain planning procedures and documentation Maintain planning tool configuration and support the evolution and deployment of new versions Maintain the scheduling website Setup and run load analysis Reporting Incident handling Support of LEOP launch and early orbit activities Support the management of the operational services Providing training for junior team members Act as an interface to the customer. Ideal candidate Applicants require a University or similar degree in engineering or similar applicable discipline or related extensive work experience. You will require good professional experience in endtoend ground station systems required for spacecraft operations. You will possess the following qualities Solid experience with planning and scheduling in an operational environment Solid experience in endtoend ground station systems for spacecraft operations Fluent in English, both in speech and writing Selfstarter, able to work independently with little or no supervision Proactive and confident personality with good persuasive skills Teamplayer, able to interface with technical and management personnel Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several tasks in parallel Able to work on shifts occasionally Solid IT knowledge, including Linux, networking concepts and common tools and software applications Service mentality and solid understanding of a KPI driven service environment Able to write and present documentation, procedures and training materialpresentations Experience in coordination and supervision of teams PC literacy MS Office Products, Lotus Notes. The planning officer is a key member of the Thorn team and someone who will have the opportunity to engage across all ESOC supported missions science, exploration, earth observation ensuring that all stakeholders have the appropriate level of ground segment support for existing and future activities. The selected candidate shall demonstrate that they can quickly develop an advanced level understanding of the tools, applications and environment used across ESA for planning and scheduling activities. With this knowledge the selected candidate shall support the scheduling office and associated systems as the inhouse expert. They shall also have some experience of complex scheduling and of negotiating resource conflicts in order to support the long term planning process for the optimal utilisation of ESAs deep space network of ground stations. We are looking for someone who has an engineering curiosity and an insatiable desire for continual learning and knowledge someone who has the diplomatic skills to engage with all ESA stakeholders management and mission representatives, someone who can work autonomously whilst retaining a professional and positive motivation at all times.
