TI late last night said it will add a 300 millimeter so-called "wafer bumping" facility to its operations in Chengdu in the Sichuan province of central China. Wafer bumping is an advanced process technology where "bumps" or balls made of a lead-free alloy are formed on the wafers before they're cut into chips.

"Revenue for the quarter was solidly in the upper half of our expected range and earnings were at the top of the range, marking another quarter of strong progress and execution," CEO Rich Templeton said about TI's third quarter. Texas Instruments Inc. reported a better than expected third quarter, posting a profit of $826 million, or 76 cents a share, on $3.5 billion in revenue.
