Runaway climate change? It's more likely than we thought
2013-07-30 17:20:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Mother Nature Network: Theres been much talk in recent years of climate feedback loops and runaway climate change, whereby the warming of our climate through man-made greenhouse gas emissions triggers further warming in the form of natural responses such as the release of methane and carbon dioxide by melting permafrost or the huge emissions caused by out-of-control wildfires. Respected NASA scientist and vocal advocate for climate action James Hansen has even claimed a runaway climate change scenario could destroy...

Guardian: Bill McKibben, leader of the global climate action group 350.org, had barely left Australia when the Climate Commission released its report The Critical Decade 2013. The timely report underlines much that we already know. The climate is changing and the evidence continues to strengthen. The risks we were warned about are now happening. Climate change will cause Alaskan village to vanish under water within 10 years
2013-07-30 10:18:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Daily News: Kivalina is home to about 400 Inupiat people. Scientists say the tiny Alaskan village is falling prey to the effects of climate change--and might be uninhabitable within the next 10 years. The northwestern Alaskan village of Kivalina is perched on a remote and narrow strip of sand next to the frigid waters of the Chukchi sea. Its 400 residents are the descendants of an Iupiat tribe. And in just 10 years, these folk might just be Americas first climate change refugees. The U.S. Army Corps...

Climate change could cost 60 trillion dollars

Australian Broadcasting Corporation: EMMA ALBERICI, PRESENTER: Scientists are warning that the impact of climate change on the Arctic could wipe $60 trillion from the global economy. New research in the journal Nature says the release of huge reserves of methane from permafrost is an economic time bomb if nothing is done to mitigate the unprecedented melting. Scientists estimate the release could lead to the global mean temperature rising by more than two degrees between 15 and 35 years earlier than expected. Developing countries...

Climate Change, Commercial Real Estate and Common Sense
2013-07-29 16:11:00| National Real Estate Investor
The real estate industry is often accused of having deep pockets and short armsits the reason some say real estate is slow to adapt to technological change. Unless there is a clear profit advantage to changing, or government regulation requires change, the reinvention and adoption of new technology often comes slowly to our industry. But right now, those two irresistible forces are converging and may force our industry to change. We may be forced to lengthen our arms or shorten our legs, so to speak. And we may even like our reinvention. read more
