Research In Motion revenues lift 9% to USD 3 bln

(Telecompaper) Research In Motion reported revenues up 9 percent year-on-year to USD 3.1 billion for its fiscal first quarter 2014 to 1 June 2013. The revenue breakdown showed 71 percent for hardware, 26 percent for service and 3 percent for software and other revenue. During the quarter, the company shipped 6.8 BlackBerry smartphones and around 100,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets. The GAAP loss from continuing operations was at USD 84 million, or USD 0.16 per diluted share, down from a GAAP loss from continuing operations at 510 million, or 0.97 per diluted share. The adjusted loss from continuing operations was USD 67 million, or USD 0.13 per diluted share. The adjusted loss from continuing operations and adjusted diluted loss per share exclude the impact of pre-tax charges of USD 26 million (USD 17 million on an after tax basis) related to the Cost Optimisation and Resource Efficiency (CORE) programme. Cash, cash equivalents, short-term and long-term investments totaled USD 3.1 billion, up by USD 200 million from the previous quarter. Cash flow from operations was at USD 630 million. Capex reached about USD 83 million.
