(Telecompaper) Last week's telecoms stock performance ranged from +10 percent for Orange Belgium to -15 percent for Intelsat. On the whole, the sector recovered from the previous week's negativity, but underperformed the general market. The most important news came out of Italy, where TIM (Telecom Italia, -0.2%) has Vivendi and Elliott battling for control and where Sky (-0.8%) forged two new distribution deals, reported late on Friday.

(Telecompaper) With the general market down sharply, as per the EuroStoxx 50 index (-4.1%), telecoms investors hardly fared any better last week. The Telecompaper European telecoms index lost 3.6 percent in week 12, including a few double digit losses. To make matters worse, winners were only to be found among the small caps of the telecoms sector.

Last week in telecoms: Vodafone and Orange drag on index, biggest losses at Iliad and MegaFon

(Telecompaper) Two stocks stood out last week for being hit very hard: Iliad (-13%) and MegaFon (-15%). Iliad's results worried investors, as its internationalisation to Italy and Ireland appears to be on track. MegaFon also dropped on Q4 results. The best performing stocks were mobile operator Turkcell (+4.2%), after results and an upwards revision of its guidance, satellite operator SES (+4.7%) and data centre operator Equinix (+6.3%). Microcaps QSC (+4.4%) and CityFibre (+4.5%) also had a strong week.
