Last week in telecoms: 5G, capex budgets and an offer for TDC drive share prices
2018-02-19 08:10:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) It was a week of recovery, both in the general market and in the European telecoms sector. Our index gained 1.7 percent, versus +3.0 percent for the Eurostoxx 50 Index. One common theme in the recent quarterly results seems to be capex budgets increasing. Also, investors are still grappling with the consequences of satellite companies offering spectrum for 5G usage in the US. And TDC benefited one last time from Macquarie's offer, leaving the share price just below the value of the offer. Year-to-date our basket is lagging the general market.

Last week in telecoms: sector underperforms the market, TDC shines on Macquarie offer, TalkTalk extends downtrend
2018-02-12 08:53:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Last week's telecoms stock performance was almost completely overshadowed by the general market correction. Our European Telecoms Stock Index was down 5.8 percent, against -5.6 percent for the Eurostoxx 50 Index. Year to date our basket is down 7.2 percent, underperforming the Eurostoxx 50's -5.1 percent. Very few stock managed to close the week up. TDC (+17.0%) was a shining outperformer on news of a buy-out offer from Macquarie et al. Other stocks in positive territory were Finnish DNA (+1.1%), extending its big gain from the previous week, and satellite group SES +1.8%, having agreed to vacate spectrum for 5G in the US.
