UVNS Product development Support Engineer mf

LSE Space is looking for an experienced Engineer mf in order to fulfill the duty of UVNS Product Development Support Engineer for our customer EUMETSAT in DarmstadtGermany. The primary responsibilities of this role will be Inhouse support is sought for the ongoing scientific and product development activities in preparation for the future UVNS mission to be flown on the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation. The key person will work within the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division of the Technical and Scientific Support TSS Department and will provide support as a member of the Atmospheric Composition AC Team. Hisher responsibilities will primarily cover the support for the generation of Level 2 data processing, product format, and auxiliary data specifications for the UVNS mission. In addition the post will support the review of calibration algorithms and contribute to development activities related to Level 1 data processing software. Development of prototype software and preparation of associated documentation will be another focus area. The tasks of the Key person will include Provision of support for the generation of Level 2 data processing, product format, and auxiliary data specifications for the UVNS mission Provision of support to the development of algorithms for the calibration of UVNS Level 0 data Development of prototype software for the purposes of testing and validation of the algorithms developed, including the generation of associated technical reports etc Analyse the constraints imposed by the implementation of the products within an operational processing environment on the algorithm and implement necessary changes Interfacing with experts across EUMETSAT as needed Collaboration with expert groups and the wider scientific community outside EUMETSAT as appropriate In addition the key person will provide support to Assessment of results from scientific studies Refinement of mission requirements in response to expert advice and results of scientific studies Scientific assessments related to requirements refinements Interaction with expert teams and the conduct of expert team meetings, Participation in reviews. Requirements The UVNS product development consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and have good interpersonal skills. Heshe shall be familiar with Level 2 retrieval algorithms, data processing, and satellite instrument characteristics in the UV to SWIR part of the spectrum. Heshe shall have the ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the consultant shall have proven experience in the field of remote sensing product retrievals, data processing, and analysis. Further the consultant shall have a solid background in software engineering. Specifically the key person shall have Experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the optical spectrum Ultraviolet to Shortwave Infrared Familiarity with Earth observation systems in operational meteorology, atmospheric composition and climate monitoring both remote sensing and in situ systems Handling and processing of remote sensing data Experience with instrument calibration and characterisation Familiarity with radiative transfer Good skills in a higher programming language e.g. Fortran, C. The following areas of expertise would be an advantage Quality control of satellite data and products Operational product processing environments Software build environments and tools e.g. make, imake, eclipse, insure Source code control system e.g. git or SVN. Academic and work related requirements A University degree in engineering, physics, or software domains is required. Perfect command of English, verbal and written. DUTIES After an initial period of training and familiarisation within the PAS Department, the first assignment will be as integrated support to the HRE Quality and Safety Office HREQ to whom the postholder will report for projectspecific responsibilities and duties. For maintaining professional standards, implementing ESAs general PAS policy and contributing to corporate tasks e.g. review standardising, alerts, lessons learned, the postholder will report to the Head of Department TECQ. Support will be provided to the Utilisation Infrastructure and PayloadsExperiment Development Division HREPI, to the NonISS Payloads and Platforms Division HREUN and to other HRE divisions as deemed necessary by the head of the HRE PAS Office HREQ. For performing these tasks, support will be provided by experts from DTEC. Specific responsibilities and duties include establishing and maintaining the PAS requirements baseline, in compliance with ESAs general PAS policy guiding and monitoring implementation of PAS requirements by contractors in order to assess performanceeffectiveness, participating in design and safety reviews and directing the necessary preventive or corrective actions managing the application and procurement of Electrical, Electronic Electromechanical EEE parts, materials and processes, controlling implementation of applicable projects requirements managing ReliabilityAvailabilityMaintainabilitySafety RAMS activities, including the use of PRA methods to support design tradeoffs, analyses and reports to support project decisions, deploying integrated support staff as appropriate ensuring implementation of the software PA requirements baseline, deploying integrated support staff as appropriate managing QA activities in support of project manufacturing, integration and testing participating in project mandatory and key inspection points, test witnessing and configuration inspections managing project activities in support of formal safety reviews by the MSERP, notably reviewing contractors flight ground hazard reports prior to submission and participating in phase safety reviews supporting certification activities regarding safetyrelated ISS payload operations applications defining the formal acceptance requirement and conducting the acceptance reviews of all contractually deliverable items providing support for tracking overall implementation of PAS verification in support of project Certificate of Flight Readiness CoFR procedures and statements reviewing contractors plans, specifications and efforts proposed to execute the projects PAS programme performing, where required, PA and Quality Audits or CM inspections relating to project scope representing ESA on project boards established for reviews failure, test, etc. and for disposition of nonconformance anomalies, etc. coordinating specialist integrated and functional support for performing PAS project tasks. As general responsibilities, the postholder will support the following maintaining the HRE QMS conducting internal and external HREQ audits providing Qualityrelated training collecting and reviewing lessons learned participating in periodic meetings with the parent department and contributing to the transfer of technology knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or technical sciences together with several years experience in Product Assurance and Quality Assurance, preferably in the aerospace domain. Experience with the application of industrial PA tools is required. Knowledge of configuration management or security management would be an additional asset, as would be a quality auditor or assessor certification. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. They should additionally have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to problemsolving and an interest in innovative technologies. Candidates must be eligible for security clearance by their national security administration. For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language.
