Empire Center Wins in MTA Fight

The state Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Empire Center for Public Policy have reached an out-of-court settlement in which the MTA acknowledges its failure to respond "in a timely manner" to the Center's Freedom of Information Law request. The MTA agreed to pay the legal costs and fees incurred by the Empire Center when the Center sued the agency to obtain 2014 payroll records.

City, MTA sued in fatal pedestrian accident in Arrochar

The city and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority created a "hazardous" condition on an Arrochar street last year during entrance-ramp work to the nearby Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, resulting in a 77-year-old pedestrian being fatally struck by an SUV, a lawsuit alleges. The estate of Valentyna Shevchenko has sued the city, its Transportation Department, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority over the July 31, 2014 incident at the intersection of Lily Pond Avenue and Narrows Road South.

NY: Cuomo Says MTA Plan Will be Balanced Upstate

July 30--ALBANY -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday the financial resources the state and New York City will devote to closing the $11 billion deficit in the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's capital plan will earn support from upstate lawmakers. Approval will come because it will help the state's major population center and it will be balanced by continued spending on upstate roads and bridges.
