A New York City police officer has turned himself in after allegedly attacking a female Metropolitan Transportation Authority employee on Dec. 23. Police said the off-duty officer had an argument with the 28-year-old MTA worker on the southbound platform of the D Train in the Bronx around 2:30 a.m. He then allegedly grabbed her and placed her in a bear hug before throwing her to the ground and chocking her. "I'm totally outraged," Joe Costales, chairman of Transport Workers Union Local 100, told the New York Daily News .

New York MTA Buses to Alert Pedestrians When Turning

Following the lead of programs in Los Angeles, Portland, and Baltimore, a pilot program by the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority will install warning systems to alert pedestrians to turning buses. "Pedestrians at city intersections will receive warnings when a bus is turning - from the bus itself - under a pilot program being developed by the MTA," reports Pete Donohoe.
