Ground Segment Engineer Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, EUMETSAT and CNES. This is an opportunity for a motivated and experienced engineer to work for our EUMETSAT customer within a new and interesting space mission. Sentinel3 is a Low Earth Orbiting mission in the context of the Copernicus Services set up by the European Commission. The first satellite, Sentinel3A, is expected to launch mid2015 with the second satellite Sentinel3B operating in tandem and due for launch 18 months later. EUMETSATs monitors and controls Sentinel 3 satellites and generates near realtime and offline products to support the marine user community. Telespazio VEGA offers a permanent position based in EUMETSAT, Darmstadt, Germany with an expected starting date in March 2015. Application closing deadline is October 31st, 2014. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES The Ground Segment Engineer shall support the development and maintenance of the S3 ground segment by providing support to the AIV activities during the integration of the S3 ground Segment and by coordinating the verification of the new systems and its interfaces into the Operational infrastructure. The Ground Segment Engineer shall also maintain an uptodate set of design documents and Interface Control Documents for the operational systems and shall perform technical analysis of system architecture and specification for evolutions or major upgrades of the S3 ground segment. In the frame of support provided by the TSS Department to the development of new programmes, the duties of the key person will then gradually evolve to provide also support to the future programmes, in the area of ground segment system engineering and, in particular, interfaces definition. Tasks As a member of the Infrastructure Engineering Maintenance team, the Key person shall contribute to maintain the overall system design documentation of the operational systems. The Key person shall ensure, in particular, the maintenance of the uptodate set of Interface Control Documents for all the operational systems. This does not imply that the Key person will be the book captain for all the ICDs, but heshe will have the responsibility to ensure that the ICDs are kept uptodate, in coordination with and with support of the other TSS teams. When evolutions of the systems are proposed and implemented, the Key person shall analyse them and verify the system and interfaces coherence. Support the GSI System Engineer on all related activities as requested Attend the OPS regular coordination meetings, including CRBs and ARBs, as requested. In the role of support to the development of new GEO and LEO programmes, the tasks of the Key person shall include Participate to the definition of the system architecture and interfaces between the multimission elements and the programme specific elements of the ground system In coordination with the system and interface engineers of the future ground segment, ensure that the definition and documentation of new interfaces are compatible with the methodology used in Operations this include the use of common templates for Interface Control Document and the use of the same tool for maintaining the interfaces data dictionary Provide support to the definition of the IVV approach for the future ground systems Promote the implementation of the TSS working practices regarding system maintainability and evolutions. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have at least three years experience in the following areas Development and maintenance of complex operational ground systems, preferably for remote sensing spacecrafts with large reuse of existing generic infrastructure and functional elements System, IVV and Interfaces Engineering AIT experience for the development of major upgrades new ground systems in a 247 operational environment Interfaces requirements definition, engineering and test, including the generation and maintenance of Interface Control Documents, with support of tools Essentials In addition, for the accomplishment of the listed tasks, proven knowledge and experience in the following of at least two of the following areas Satellite monitoring and control systems Data processing Dissemination Archive systems Ground Stations Desirables Full development cycle of large systems, from the definition of requirements to system design and testing Knowledge of Network system engineering would be considered as an advantage. We are planning to establish a core team of 56 individuals that have to be available for client interview late December 2014. The service commences in 2016 for a 5year commitment. The Analysis Team will be responsible for the organisation, training and operational proficiency of the Controller Team amongst other tasks. Typical tasks and responsibilities will include The coordination of the scheduled daytoday activities in the control centre and all manned facilities of the MSG and MTG systems, according to established rules and procedures, in particular acting as the link between the Controller Team and the Operations and Maintenance Engineers To perform the weekly scheduling function, gathering all operations ad a maintenance input on conducting initial conflict resolution. Maintenance of the spacecraft and ground segment database. To support mission planning and scheduling coordination. Operation of the configuration control system and procedures for operational data. Maintenance of the DCP management database to ensure the smooth running of the DCP service and the followup of user enquiries. Mission performance data analysis and reporting day to day tracking of mission performance for anomaly investigation and reporting purposes Maintenance of a set of configuration controlled reference operational documentation and ensure changes are applied operationally. Analysis as required of system problems by collection and evaluation of appropriate data sets using the reporting and analysis tools available. The successful candidates will be required to analyse the system operations, prepare procedures, and be involved in the validation and testing of updates to both the control system and the operational procedures. They will also take part, as required, in operational system validation activities and simulations, and arrange for the participation of the controllers. All applicants must have a good background within a scientific or technical discipline at a relatively senior level. Good IT skills is essential along with experience with realtime systems, the application of procedures, and operational environments.
