JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks The Consultant shall analyse, support the design, operational implementation and validation of the agreed changes to product algorithms. Similarly, the Consultant shall support the design, implementation and validation of new product algorithms. The work is carried out in small project teams consisting of relevant experts. The Consultant will also be involved in the analysis and resolution of anomalies relating to the product generation software. The tasks of the Consultant will typically include Analysis of product change proposals Design, implementation and validation of updatednew algorithms Documentation of changes related to product updates Preparation of technical notes on product implementation issues Development, maintenance and update of product generation monitoring software and the corresponding database Monitoring and operating the product generation facilities Visualisation and analysis of geophysical products Qualifications In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such a computer science, physics, mathematics or remote sensing, the Consultant shall have minimum of 5 years of experience in operational product generation from satelliteremote sensing data. In addition, the Consultant shall have experience in validation of geophysical products from satellite data. Required knowledge Furthermore, the Consultant shall have practical, demonstrable experience with Algorithm software development using FORTRAN 9095 in a Unix environment Implementation of scientific algorithms from a given specification Source code control systems, preferably Subversion Anomaly correction and configuration management processes Python and IDL programming languages Common meteorological data formats, like BUFR, CAP, GRIB, HDF5, and netCDF UnixLinux operating systems Desirable Knowledge Practical, demonstrable experience of the following will be advantageous Relational databases using SQL Algorithm software development using CC programming language Authoring clear and concise technical documentation The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. The Consultant is expected to work in a team and may be called upon to present hisher work, therefore good communication skills are a necessity. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French.
